Who I am
Hello, I’m Azrael. I am the sum of many parts, many lifetimes, and the wisdom of many mentors. I am a guide, healer, artist, spiritual alchemist, and sense worker.
I was born and raised in a working class poor family on Chickasaw land colonially known as Memphis, TN. I spent many years traveling before relocating to Lenapehoking (Philadelphia, PA) for seven years. I eventually made my way back to the south where I currently reside in the beautiful mountains of Appalachia on the lands of the Cherokee people, with my chosen family including our five cats.
I am the result of many generations of complex violence, trauma, resilience, and joy from my Irish and Scottish lineage. I became dedicated to my personal expansive healing journey, not only in response to my own trauma, but to tend to the deep ancestral wounds that were passed down to me, and to deepen my commitment to the lifelong work of decolonization.
I’ve worked many jobs throughout my life, but there is one thing that connects them all: a sense of service, beyond the coercion of capitalism. From working in food service to the sex industry, farm work to theatre, everything I’ve done has been in service to my community. Over time, I’ve realized that, regardless of how I am making money, I must be in service in order to feel full. It is how I express my love, creativity, and passion. I am so grateful that I now get to be in service to people like you, who are dedicating themselves to a deeper healing journey, and helping others find what makes them feel full, expansive, and connected.
Other parts of myself that inform my practice as guide include my identities as a white, able-bodied, neurodivergent, non-binary transsexual, queer person and abuse survivor. I am a harm reductionist and have spent many years working and organizing with people who live on the streets and/or work in street economies such as the drug and sex trades. I am a pleasure-centered sex educator, and love to incorporate art, theatre, and movement into my educational and organizing work. I love communing with nature, and have always had a transcendent connection with animals.
While I have undergone many years of mentorship and trainings in therapeutic modalities such as IFS and somatic healing, I intentionally do not hold or pursue licensure in order to have more freedom in my work and as a part of my commitment to the lifelong work of de-colonizing my practice. By not being beholden to an institution, my clients with higher risk profiles- such as immigrants, activists, and trans people- are able to be fully present in our work without the fear of having their privacy breached or weaponized by a government entity. Safety and security are non-negotiable to me, and I take extreme care to ensure all of my clients’ privacy is maintained, so that you are able to bring your whole self to our sessions without any additional anxieties.
I am forever grateful to my own guides who have journeyed with me into my depths, encouraged me to move towards my calling as a healer, and supported me in shaping my practice and honing my abilities, including Aisha Mohammed, Jennifer Jones, Phillippe Citrine, Kaorin Marie, and my ancestors.
